THE COMPUTER CLUBHOUSE WELCOMES ARIADNA FLOWERS
We are pleased to announce that Ariadna Flowers has accepted the position of Project Coordinator for the Computer Clubhouse. Ariadna will be the focal contact person for the Computer Clubhouse and will coordinate the after school tutoring and mentoring programs, interface with the Advisory Committee, parents and teachers, and coordinate the volunteers and their assignments. Ariadna will also play a key advocacy role to help develop and grow the Computer Clubhouse. Bill Izabal, ListoAmerica President and Founder, said that, “Ariadna brings a diverse and rich personal and professional background to this assignment and is very well suited to not only assure the success of our students but also to inspire them with her own personal story." Ariadna was born in Mexico, and at a young age came to the United States with her parents. She faced all the challenges of a new immigrant and was able to learn English and succeed in School. After graduating from Inglewood High School, Ariadna completed 2 years at El Camino College and then transferred to California State University, Northridge, where she graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in International Business. During her college years, she worked at CompUSA where she was promoted to Supervisor. After graduating from the University, she worked as a tutor for The Academic Advantage as part of the “No Child Left Behind” program. Since a key component of the Computer Clubhouse is for the students to have remote connection with real scientists and engineers from corporations and small businesses, the students will be able to utilize the 20 computers at the Center, which were donated by the IBM Corporation, to stay connected with scientists and engineers who will serve as mentors and tutors. Jose Ruiz, IT Director for the Mexican American Opportunity Foundation (MAOF) and who played a key role in the development and installation of the IT equipment for the Center, said that “he was really impressed with Ariadna’s knowledge and comfort with the use of the computers, and she will be very helpful to the students when they meet technical challenges in using the equipment.” Adriana’s work location will be at the Computer Clubhouse, 2154 E. Florence Ave, Walnut Park, CA 90255. (e-mail: aflowers@maof.org)
